Altered album now available in the Emporium

My altered board book featuring 3 items of jewellery is now available in the emporium. Look under Miscellaneous Steampunk and Victorian things, and you’ll find it. Let me know how the animation (shown below) works on anyone else’s pc! If it’s just too slow or doesn’t work I’ll replace it with a slideshow ….

Collages now available in the Emporium!

At last I’ve got around to getting all of the little collages up into the shop.

The mini collages are around an A6 size on canvas boards. The boards have all been painted with antiqued edges and have various applied items on, ranging from card through metals cogs to jewellery. they are mostly steampunk in nature, with one from India, using photos and items that I bought on my recent trip there. In fact, the ‘silver’ bracelet was actually purchased from the stunning lady in the picture.

The largest collage – although the smallest picture in this gallery – is built up on a ‘proper’ canvas and uses a variety of images and items including vintage images, some photos that I took in India, card, string, ceramic and more. Again, it’s full varnished.

All of the others use the 3-d decoupage technique that I’ve used in the cards, and all are varnished. Each one has a different hanger attached. Prices in the Emporium INCLUDE signed for UK postage, which itself includes compensation up to around £40 for non jewellery items. If your order totals more than £40, and/or includes jewellery, then you can purchase the UK Special Delivery item which includes compensation up to £500 for a maximum weight of 500g. International postage includes insurance and is signed for also.

New Scanner

Well I’ve got the new scanner up and running and I must say I’m really pleased with it so far. It scans MUCH faster than anything else I’ve ever had, about 10 seconds give or take from warmup to pic on the page! PLUS it just plugs in to the USB port, so as well as being very portable (cos it’s very small as well) it doesn’t need a separate power supply and therefore uses less power. One or two of the 3d collages were a bit tricky – and it didn’t scan in my lace chokers all that well, as the attachments were so three dimensional that some of the lace blurred in the background. But then, that’s what the camera is for. It’s done a good job on the cards and most of the collages, and one or two bits of jewellery that I was playing around with scanning didn’t come out too bad either.  It does seem to go out of focus really quickly though, so if it’s not flat on the scanner glass you don’t have much distance before it’s gone all fuzzy. That said, it’s super fast and does what I need it to.

Here’s a sample:

fish stickpin

You can see that the stick bit of the stickpin is out of focus, so it doesn’t have to be that far away from the glass to become blurry. I don’t think it matters in this case, but it’s just something to bear in mind.

I’m just editing the others that I’ve scanned in of the cards and collages, and then they’ll be appearing in the emporium.

By the way, the scanner’s a Canon CanoScan LiDE 210, and I got it for a pretty good price  from Amazon:

Artwork up very soon

Hooray, my new scanner has arrived and is almost set up – so very shortly I’ll be posting up pics of my 3-d collages for sale in the shop. I’ve also got plans this weekend for making some new additions as well so I’ll be drawing those out before making them. I’m going back to making fascinators, but these will be steampunk inspired (of course) mini top hats – and perhaps some others as well. I need to get making for the first of our Spring craft fairs as I have very low stock since Christmas. I’ve also been downloading some new steampunk clipart to go up in the Imaginarium (as if I didn’t have enough already) – this time of sea monsters, octopuses and squid. So keep an eye on the emporium and the imaginarium as both should be expanding in the next few days.

Meanwhile why not take a look at Stamford Artisans Guild (http://www NULL.stamfordartisansguild NULL.co NULL.uk) website and catch up with the various artisans involved in the Guild – or if you’re in the mood for something different take a look at my mate Dave’s wire Ents and Trees here (http://www NULL.roughrocks NULL.co NULL.uk/category/wire-sculptures/) – I fell in love with his first Ent and bought it for my husband’s birthday and I also have a very lovely fruit tree:

My Tree

Shalini has other trees for sale on her website here (http://http://www NULL.jewellerybyshalini NULL.co NULL.uk) amongst her beautiful jewellery. Why not go over and take a look? Meanwhile I’m off the Antiques Centre for some inspiration!

Stamford Artisans Guild Stamford Dates

We’ve had confirmation of the dates when we will be showing at Stamford Arts Centre for our Stamford Craft Fairs for 2011.

Why not make a note of these dates for your diary:

  • 15 May 2011
  • 24 July 2011
  • 25 September 2011
  • 04 December 2011

They are all Sundays, and the Craft Fair is open from 10am until 4pm. I can’t tell you exactly who will be at each date yet, but I will probably be at all of them unless the September one conflicts with the Asylum of course!

You can find out more information by checking out the Stamford Artisans Guild website  here (http://www NULL.stamfordartisansguild NULL.co NULL.uk) which also tells you about our artisans and various other fairs that have been done.

The ordered imaginarium

Well I figured out how to get some order into the chaos that the Imaginarium was becoming. I’ve managed to work out how to get single categories to show up, so you will now find that the main page has links to each category which makes it easier to navigate.

There are still loads of pictures waiting to be uploaded, but now I’ve worked out the pagination system for this I shall get to work on the emporium again. Work was halted whilst I discovered that neither of my scanners worked with Windows 7 64-bit, so I had to go on a hunt for one that did. I need the scanner to get better representations of the artwork, taking pics of the completed ‘hard’ cards and collages with a camera just doesn’t do them justice, so when they are of a size to fit on the scanner that’s how I’ll do it. Some jewellery photographs better on the scanner too, but I’ve used the camera of late for speed. I’m  hoping the new scanner will give me speed as well, so we will have to wait and see.

More work on the imaginarium and emporium

I’ve spent quite a lot of time trying to categorise all the steampunk clipart in the imaginarium. It’s probably me but I can’t work out how to make it work properly. I can get a list of categories (eg cogs, corsets, etc) but when you click on it, you just get the whole list, so I’ve decided to leave it for the time being and concentrate on the emporium.

I have got the categories sorted for that and now just have to get some items up. So watch this space as the shop will be up and running very shortly.

The New Imaginarium!

The new Imaginarium is up and running at last! I am gradually adding more and more free steampunk clipart and vintage artwork for you to download. You will have to log in, but all clipart downloads are free and simple. Once you’ve signed in, all you need to do is click on the artwork thumbnail, and voila, it downloads automatically to your pc. And I guarantee that I’ll never pass your details on to anyone else, and there’ll be no spam.

Some of the images are too small to generate thumbnails from, so I’m afraid the descriptions will have to suffice. Currently the ones not showing are a series of small illustrations of cogs, like the one above, which you can use to make up more complex pictures, a small picture of a guy in a topee (below), and a small page of old advertisements. All nice steampunk images, or just useful if you’re doing vintage or shabby chic style collages, cards or general artwork

.

On reflection I thought the shop idea might be too complicated for the free downloads, although there will be some of my artwork available for download in the shop once I get the scans/photos sorted and the shop ready to go. There will be a small charge for my own collages which you can download, but then again you will be able to use them as often as you like for your own steampunk cards or whatever. I will also get my little collage canvases up in the shop as well once I can get some good photos of them. These will be available for sale, and you will receive the unique artwork in the post.

Steampunk New Year and Imaginarium news

Spent a superb New Year’s break in the company of friendly steampunks at the Holiday Inn in Corby. Great fun was had by all which included hot air balloon racing,   and tea duelling –  not to mention meerkat racing, music hall and Victorian swimming. Came away with lots of inspiration for jewellery, costuming and artwork, just need to find the time to get it all done.

Talking of which, now that the Christmas Break is over (well almost) the Imaginarium is due for a makeover

I have nearly 700 pieces of free steampunk clipart and vintage artwork to get up so it’s quite a task. I think it will probably be in a shop format, so that the free clip art can be added to a basket as you browse through, but I have yet to finalise. It will all be free  to download, of course, but I think it will be easier than clicking then right clicking again. If it’s a shop format, then you will have to register to download, but that really just means that I can get some idea of how many people have been using the facility once it’s up and running properly.
