Well it’s been a while, due in part to burglars attempting to steal the copper in our telephone cables. We’ve had five outtages in six months, with no internet or phone for around 4 days each time. Also, I’ve been busy out and about socialising (Asylum, Whitby, etc) and selling with no time to update the site as I’ve been to busy making things in my spare time.

Anyway, it’s the major craft fair season now, and my ‘appearances’ until Christmas are as follows:

27 November – Grantham Christmas event – in the Arts Centre
1st and 2nd December – some items at the POPUP SHOP in Peterborough (it’s in the ‘Old Still’ where Westgate Arcade joins Queensgate)
3rd and 4th December – Leicester Guildhall
8,9,10 December – PopUp Shop as before
11 December – Green Backyard in Peterborough
15,16,17 and 21 December – PopUp Shop as before.

Had a brilliant show at Sywell last weekend with Pennine Fairs, the first time I had shown with them. Will definitely use them again as there was a steady stream of visitors for both days and over 90 stallholders. Excellent.
It would be nice to get some of my artwork up for sale and download before Christmas, so I’ll try and fit it in (copper wire thieves permitting of course) and some pics of my latest jewellery – but it seems that as soon as it’s made it’s on sale and I haven’t had time to take decent pics of anything recently.

Well it’s almost here again. Doesn’t seem like a year ago that I went to my first Steampunk event, Weekend at the Asylum 2o10 – and I’m almost ready for 2011. Outfits made, new stock made, hats trimmed  … Find out more about the Asylum here: http://steampunk.synthasite.com/

Been very busy this summer with lots of craft fairs in new locations and one or two steampunk meetups for picnics. Of course I’ve also been busy making things and have new designs for cards and artwork, a steampunk calendar in the pipeline, a steampunk paper doll in my head and costumes to make for The Asylum in September.

June brought the Castle Bytham Street fair – sadly, awful weather and I didn’t do too well. I have done this one several times in the past and it’s a mixed bag really. Although the location and weather didn’t help, I don’t think it’s really the right venue for me. On the previous day I’d attended the Kit Car Show in Newark. I just managed to make my table fee on the one day I was there. Not sure if I will try that one again or not.

At the end of June we had A Damn Fine Do in Nottingham. A few of us made it to Nottingham Castle for a Steam punknic and wander around the castle. We met at the Trip to Jerusalem pub – apparently the oldest pub in the country – and then on to the castle. It rained for our picnic, which didn’t deter us. We sat there with our umbrellas up, sipping tea and eating sandwiches and then had  a look around and a guided tour around the dungeons.

At the beginning of July I was at Oakham Festival. They had a steampunk and carnival theme, and I borrowed a fabulous old fashioned gramophone for my stall which brought in a lot of people. I had a super day’s trading and it was a great atmosphere:

The next day I was at Thorpe Arnold Street Market. Weather was fine, but trading was very slow. Again, a lovely location but not sure it was the right venue for me.

On 10th July I went to the Green Backyard in Peterborough. The second Sunday of each month sees their hand made craft fair. It’s a brilliant green space in the centre of Peterborough   -  a community growing project run entirely by volunteers.They are transforming a once-derelict former allotment site into a beautiful and productive site where they promote sustainable lifestyles and raise awareness of environmental issues through practical demonstration and community involvement. I had a super day and met lots of lovely people. I will definitely be going there again, the tea’s good and I can buy freshly pulled veg as well.

On the weekend of the 15th I went to Lubstock Festival with my wares. Another beautiful location on a lakeside, in the village of Lubenham in Leics. Sadly the weather wasn’t with us this time, and although it was mostly ok for the music, it rained like anything during the night – and as I had stupidly used the same tent for display and sleeping, which wasn’t really big enough, stock and bedding both got rather wet.

Next year I’ll take my  new Event Tent and hope that will solve the problem if the weather’s inclement again.

The following weekend we had a special cream tea at Snibston museum, where a group of us had a talk by the curator of the Symington Corset Collection. We were allowed to handle some of the beautiful antique items and then take a look around the exhibits. Plus tea of course! Quite a few of us turned up and had a super afternoon.

I had a fabulous time at the Belgrave Hall Museum in Leicester on 30th July. It was a beautiful day (amazingly) and a beautiful location and I was in the stunning gardens with my stall. I had a lot of interest in the steampunk stuff, and was sorry that I hadn’t dressed up for the day. Sales were excellent, food was good and very reasonable, other exhibitors were lovely and it was really well organised with helpful staff.

Last weekend brought our steampunk flashmob day. We had a tiny ‘mob’ of 3  at Nene Valley Railway, but we picnicked on the platform and again on the train, had a wander to the river, and certainly seemed to cheer up some of the other visitors.

This coming weekend, August 13th I’ll be at Oundle for a Jewellery and Accessories fair run by V&A Events. I’ve never worked with them before, but it seems really well organised and I’m looking forward to seeing what Oundle’s like as a venue.  On Sunday 14th I’ll be back at The Green Backyard in Peterborough.

After a good start on Saturday the vintage fayre at Edith Weston got rained off on Sunday. Unfortunately not many 1940′s re-enactors turned up for either day, and I assume this was due to another event on the same day – and of course the weather on Sunday. Lots of hard work gone into the setting up of the event so it was a real shame that rain stopped play. I did manage to get a nice double lidded basket for steampunk picnics, and a lot of old wind up watches which will no doubt find their way into my jewellery soon!

From the craft point of view, it was sad that there was no dedicated craft tent this year and we were rather stuck at the end of the field, away from the music, food stalls and general centre of things. Will have to see what they plan next year as to whether I will do this event again.

But the stall opposite me on Saturday had this fabulous 1928 cat costume for sale! Reminded me of the graphic novel ‘Alias the Cat’

Well, onwards and upwards as next weekend is now full with the CCA Kit Car Show in Newark on Saturday and the ever expanding Castle Bytham Midsummer Fair on Sunday. Weather forecast is rain for both days but am inside on Saturday at least. Sunday is a 30% chance of rain at the moment, so let’s hope we don’t get it after all!

Good news in that the Imaginarium is now back up and running again. A little bit of site maintenance that needed doing and I had overlooked!

Waltz on the Wye at the weekend was a lovely experience. Lots of beautifully dressed and very friendly people of the steampunk persuasion and lots of really brilliant entertainments. I’m just sorry that I didn’t have the time to visit the talks and the various things going on outside as I had a stall in the Mechanised Market. I DID manage to see the fantastic magic lantern show on the Friday night and enjoy the music at the bandstand. Next year (and I hope there will be a next year!) I fully intend to do the complete weekend.

Next weekend, 13,14 and 15th May, is going to be pretty busy. I am at Waltz on the Wye Steampunk festival for Friday afternoon, with a stall all day on Saturday. Then it’s back to Rutland and off again to Stamford on Sunday morning for the Stamford Artisans Guild Craft Market at Stamford Arts Centre.

I’ve got a few new pieces of artwork, made up into cards, and some new items of jewellery – although they did sell quite well last weekend! I got two commissions out of Oakham Castle. One has been completed – a crochet wire collar, and I have a bracelet to make in the same vein for a wedding.

I have some new and beautiful Guipure lace just waiting to be made up into chokers – this time in white and black – and I really need to make some more gentlemen’s items. So watch this space!

Having a good day at Oakham Castle today, the first Oakham event for Stamford Artisans Guild. I’ve got my steampunk jewellery, cards and collages and have sold quite well with at leat one commission as well as live sales. Other dates for Oakham are: 27 August and 12th November, both at the Castle in the Market Place.
I’m at Grantham tomorrow in the ballroom at the Council Chamber, and the guild is ‘home’ in Stamford on Sunday 15th May.
